Will Crystal Chip damage my PlayStation®2?
When properly installed, Crystal Chip will not harm your PS2™ in any way. However, when you install any sort of hardware inside your PlayStation®2, you take a risk of making a mistake which could damage your CC or your PlayStation®2 console. Always follow instructions and verify your work before powering on your PlayStation®2.
Is the Crystal Chip safer for the lens of my console?
The number of wires attached to the "CDVD controller" has no effect the lens what-so-ever. Someone started this rumor a while ago and certain people have been helping to perpetuate it. It is marketing propaganda, nothing more. We could make this claim but will not.
Does Crystal Chip suffer from "Ground Bounce"?
Crystal Chip has been designed in such a way that "Ground Bounce" is not a problem at all. We've tested it under a number of conditions with various wiring methods and have found no ill effects even when the wiring was truly terrible. This is not to suggest that you should be neglectful when installing the ground wire. All wires should be installed correctly for optimal performance. To further demonstrate the stability of Crystal Chip, we should mention that on one occasion the ground wire came completely detached from the PS2™ mainboard and Crystal Chip still functioned! Of course this did NOT result in stable operation...
Will Crystal Chip allow me to play copied (aka "backups") or import games?
Crystal Chip will not allow you to play copied or import games. While it does allow you to read "burned" media discs, we have specifically designed our software patches to disallow the execution of game discs. There are 2 main reasons for this. The first reason is that in many countries, it is illegal to play copied and/or import game discs even if you own the original disc. The second reason is that Crystal Chip is intended for legally launching "homebrew" software. Due to the aforementioned legal problems, we felt it best to keep any questionably-legal features out of the Crystal Chip design so as not to become confused with so-called "modchip" devices which have been deemed illegal in some countries. While we understand that many people use these devices to legitimately back up their game discs or play import software which is not available in their region, we also respect the fact that different people are subjected to different laws in regard to consumer rights.
Why doesn't Crystal Chip support SCPH-10000, SCPH-15000 and SCPH-18000 models?
The SCPH-10000 and SCPH-15000 (the first 2 japanese models) are rather different than the models which came after them. Given the relatively low occurence of SCPH-10000 and SCPH-15000 models which still work, we felt that there was not enough market demand to rationalize adding support for these models. This allows us to focus on all the other models currently available and optimize the Crystal Chip for use on them. The SCPH-18000 is not officially supported due to some differences in the BIOS in that model. Crystal Chip will probably work just fine in the SCPH-18000, however we do not intend to claim support of any models we cannot gurantee 100% compatability with.
Does Crystal Chip support the new Revised PS2™ (aka "PSTwo™")?
Yes, Crystal Chip works perfectly on all v1-v15 consoles to date.
